Recently, the Pelham Manor Fire Department (PMFD) donated surplus equipment and expired gear to two rural departments located in Arkansas and Kentucky. This effort exemplifies Pelham Manor's broad commitment to safety and reinforces our green initiatives, including reuse.
The Erwin Fire Department in Arkansas is a small, rural department that has no operating budget and relies solely on donations. The PMFD donated older, antiquated nozzles, hose appliances, hose fittings, as well as 5 portable radios that are no longer compatible with our new radio system. The PMFD also donated 10 sets of expired firefighting gear to the Lecher Fire Department in Kentucky. This department is one of many that recently suffered catastrophic flooding over the summer and lost most of its firefighting equipment. The gear Pelham Manor donated, along with other donations, will help local departments provide critical services. As PMFD Chief Michael Greco explained, "This was the least we could do with our surplus equipment."
