Young Children
Children should trick-or-treat during daylight hours
Children should not trick-or-treat alone
A responsible adult should escort children while trick-or-treating
Children should stay with their group at all times
Children should walk, not run, during their trick-or-treating activities
Children should wear proper fitting, comfortable costumes and shoes
All costumes should be made of light-colored, fireproof material
Masks should not be worn if they impair vision
Wigs should be fireproof and should not restrict vision
Children should always use the sidewalks, not the street, for walking
Children should look in all directions before crossing the street
Realistic replica firearms should never be used as part of a costume
Props such as swords should be made of pliable material
CHILDREN SHOULD NEVER EAT ANY TREATS UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN EXAMINED
Older Children who trick or treat with friends
Children should trick or treat in groups—never alone
ALWAYS stay together
Children should not take shortcuts through backyards or alleys
Never go into anyone’s house or car—no matter what the person says
Do not be pre-occupied with electronic devices—be aware of your surroundings at all times
Pre-program your cell phone with all important numbers
Be extra cautious crossing the streets
Make sure an adult knows the route you are taking
Agree with you parents on an acceptable time to be home

Adults
When driving, drive below the posted speed limit in residential areas
Do NOT pass other vehicles that have stopped in the road
Use EXTREME caution entering and exiting driveways
Do not use any electronic devices while driving—even when using hands-free devices, your
attention is not totally focused on driving. Wait until you have parked to use your phone
Prime Trick-or-Treating time is 5:30 – 9:00pm. Be extra cautious. Let’s make sure every child
gets home safely on Halloween night
