New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is making headway on their extensive paving project along Boston Post Road (Route 1). As a reminder, before the road is milled and paved, NYS DOT is conducting drainage maintenance on the catch basins, installing and repairing ADA sidewalk ramps, and tending to other infrastructure that Route 1 contains. Given the volume of traffic that traverses the roadway, the work must be done overnight to maintain safety.
For the duration of the project, work will take place Sunday through Thursday between the hours of 9:00pm to 6:00am. NYS DOT makes every effort to keep the noise disturbance to a minimum, however, it is unavoidable that there will be trucks and equipment working through the overnight hours. The work is scheduled to use the nosiest type of equipment at the beginning of the shift and swift to hand tools as soon as possible. From our understanding, they will carry out this prep work up one side of Route 1 and then come down the other side. They are currently working along the eastern side of the roadway. We ask for residents patience and understanding throughout this process.
This paving project is an infrequent experience as this type of capital investment has a long-lasting useful life. It has been many years since this area of roadway has received this level of attention and, once it is complete, it will be a greatly anticipated upgrade for our community.
