It's official, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) has begun its paving project on Boston Post Road (Route 1)! After extensive advocacy from our Village, with the support of our state elected officials, Boston Post Road will be paved for the length of the Village of Pelham Manor. NYS DOT has awarded the contract to Morano Brothers Corp. The project includes setting up a staging area to house their equipment (NYS DOT "home base") and making the roadway safe for working conditions, drainage work on the catch basins, installing and repairing ADA sidewalk ramps, and finishes with milling and paving. The project sequence is in the aforementioned order. At present, the staging work has begun.
To make the roadway safe for working conditions, various electronic messaging boards, long-term signage, survey work, and stationing of equipment must take place. The NYS DOT needs to have a place to use as "home base" throughout their project to house their equipment. They will be utilizing their property that is near the interchange for the Hutchinson River Parkway, pictured below. You will notice the red Morano Brothers Corp. truck on the left-hand side of the picture, this is the location for the temporary equipment yard, NYS DOT "home base."
Residents will begin to notice the various items listed above that NYS DOT will be utilizing to make the roadway safe for working conditions. Pictured below is an example of one of their electronic messaging boards. For the duration of the project, roadway work will take place Sunday through Thursday between the hours of 9:00pm to 6:00am. This type of paving project is an infrequent experience as this type of capital project has a long-lasting useful life. It has been many years since this area of roadway has received this level of attention and we are grateful to realize this project for our community!
