Joseph Ruggiero, Fire Chief

Our Fire Department has 17 professional fire fighters and 25 volunteers led by Chief Joseph Ruggiero. Our fire fighters are among the best trained in Westchester County. Like the police, the Fire Department has a rapid response time. Our manpower, equipment, training and response time combine to give the Village an excellent fire insurance rating with the major insurance carriers. This entitles our property owners to lower insurance premiums compared to most other communities.

The Pelham Manor Fire Department also conducts an extensive, year-round fire prevention program. This program includes quarterly fire inspections at commercial properties, the annual fire prevention education program presented at our elementary schools and a free smoke detector installation program for those residential properties that need them. If you need additional smoke detectors in your home call the Fire Department at 738-8824 and schedule an installation appointment.

SAFETY NOTICES

House Numbers
Every residence or place of business is required to be numbered and to have its number attached to the front of the building. Building numbering is critically important in an emergency. It can save police, fire and ambulance personnel valuable time in responding to an emergency.

Smoke Detectors
The Pelham Manor Fire Department says to protect your home and your loved ones install a smoke detector on every level of your house. Test all units monthly and change batteries at least annually.

Leaf fire safety
Please do not park your vehicle on leaf piles. Hot exhaust parts can ignite the leaves. In the past, the Pelham Manor Fire Department has had to respond to automobile fires started by parking on leaf piles.

Prepare for heating season
The Pelham Manor Fire Department suggests that residents have their chimney and heating system cleaned by a professional. With heating season around the corner, now is the time to have all heat producing systems in your house as well as the flues and chimneys associated with them cleaned and inspected.

Fire Exits
The Pelham Manor Fire Department reminds you to check for the nearest fire exit when entering a public building. You should be aware of fire exits when you visit a hotel, shopping centers, stores or a theater.

Exit Drills in the Home
The Pelham Manor Fire Department encourages you to practice exit drills in your home. Establish predetermined means of exit from your home in case of fire. Then, practice your escape routes by using exit drills.
